Current Trustees

Secretary - Charlie Huitson

Charlie's career has been in the Fire Service having served as a Fire Fighter through to senior office working in London and Devon.

During this period he dealt with a wide range of issues including business planning and budgets.  After retiring from the Fire Service he became self employed as a free lance Fire and Health and Safety Consultant working for various companies.  In the last couple of years he has been working with the Prince's Trust as part of the Enterprise Team supporting

young people to start their own businesses.  He has now retired, but still supports the Prince's Trust as a volunteer.

'I became a Trustee of the Woolwell Centre, firstly as I have lived in Woolwell now for 31 years and know the surrounds well, plus during this time I have not only seen the general area expand, but also the building of the Woolwell Centre to provide a social hub for the community to use.  Lastly, I feel that the Fire Service has equipped me with the skills required to contribute to the team who make the Centre the success it is'.

Current Chair of Trustees - James Peterson

James qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and is a member of the company/commercial team at a local firm of solicitors. James plays an active role in the local business community, Chamber of Commerce and is a trustee acting for us.

'I love playing golf and spending time with my wife and two young children (my wife often says it is in that order!). The best thing about being a Trustee at The Woolwell Centre is helping to make sure that a fantastic community asset is preserved for the long term future use of the local community'.

Barrie Spencer

Barrie was a founder member of the Steering Group which originally looked at the establishment of the Centre back in the early 1990's.  He chaired the Group during its initial stages including overseeing the building of the Centre, its funding, kitting out and eventually opening in 1996.  He has worked with the Centre and its team of staff, trustees and volunteers ever since.  He still volunteers regularly at Centre functions.  He is passionate about local community issues and has worked on a number of other projects in the area as well as being a Councillor with Bickleigh Parish Council.

Barrie was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in the inaugural Woolwell Centre Local Business and Community Awards in 2014.

He is married with three children, has lived in the area for 24 years and runs a firm of Independent Financial Advisors (when he has the time).  His outside interests include classic cars, collecting first day covers and gadgets.

Ali Bishop

Ali Bishop is a Registered Nurse specialising in wound healing and hyperbaric medicine.  She is Senior Clinical Nurse at DDRC Healthcare in Plymouth where she has worked for 12 years.  Ali spends most of her time looking after her two sons, but enjoys reading, cycling and walking when time allows.

As a user of The Woolwell Centre, Ali decided to join the board of trustees to support this invaluable community facility and help the Centre expand and continue the services it offers to local families.
